James Gunn is defending the Man of Metal.
The “Superman” director addressed the destructive response to a brand new teaser trailer for the DC movie that reveals David Corenswet’s Superman flying via a frozen tundra.
One critic advised Gunn, 58, on Threads, “There’s something with his face that looks a little off. I know there’s plenty of time to refine the CG.”
Gunn replied, “There is absolutely zero CG in his face. People’s faces can look different when you put a wide angle lens up close. The background plate in Svalbard is 100% real as is David.”
Gunn’s response got here after a number of followers claimed that Corenswet’s face within the flying shot didn’t look actual.
“The flying scene looks a little rough,” one account wrote on X in a reply to Gunn’s put up with the teaser.
“Respectfully the CGI looks really bad, especially during the flying sequence,” one other fan stated. “It looks like an AI face swap.”
“Nah this ain’t it,” a unique fan wrote.
A fourth fan stated, “This is objectively terrible looking. lol Wow.”
Another person wrote, “Took a lot of balls to post this with crossed eye CGI Superman at the end.”
A unique X account stated the flying scene seemed “goofy” and “cheap.”
Gunn, who directed the “Guardians of the Galaxy” trilogy and “The Suicide Squad,” was named co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran in 2022.
“We’re honored to be the stewards of these DC characters we’ve loved since we were children,” Gunn and Safran, 59, stated in an announcement obtained by The Submit. “We look forward to collaborating with the most talented writers, directors, and actors in the world to create an integrated, multilayered universe that still allows for the individual expression of the artists involved.”
“Superman” is Gunn’s first movie within the new DC Universe. The film, which was initially titled “‘Superman: Legacy,” is a part of an preliminary grouping of movies dubbed Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
The July 2025 blockbuster stars Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Nathan Fillion as Inexperienced Lantern, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific.
Gunn can also be directing “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” starring “House of the Dragon” alum Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin, which will probably be launched in theaters in July 2026.
The director confirmed on X final week that filming began on “Supergirl.”
“Thrilled to see cameras roll at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden on Supergirl, with Craig Gillespie at the helm and the phenomenal Milly Alcock as our Kara Zor-El,” he wrote.
