The New York Police Division is searching a moped-riding, knife-wielding robber whom they’ve dubbed the “Haggler After Midnight” for his peculiar mugging method, saying his holdups are getting extra brazen and violent.
Since early November, the suspect has focused 11 victims in Brooklyn and Queens.
The victims are usually Hispanic males between 20 and 40 on their manner house from work within the wee hours of the morning, police stated.
Deputy Chief John Mastronardi on the division’s Crimes Towards Individuals Unit advised WNBC that the mugger negotiates in each English and Spanish.
“He’s got a strange M.O. – he likes to haggle with his victims, so we call him the ‘Haggler After Midnight,’” he stated. “Oftentimes if a victim produces a property that they’re going to give up, he says ‘No, no, no, I don’t want that, want that.’ So he gets to choose.”
Police stated the mugger gave the impression to be most interested by money and electronics in every of the incidents, which started on Nov. 7.
In every assault, he approached on a blue or dark-colored motorized scooter, usually threatened victims with a knife and relieved them of knickknack, telephones and different valuables.
Often, the mugger requested his victims inquiries to measurement them up, based on the NYPD.
In a single occasion, he requested for instructions; in one other, he requested a sufferer whether or not he was a development employee.
