Hoda Kotb was in her emotions throughout the “Today” Christmas episode.
The anchors of the NBC morning program exchanged their Secret Santa presents on Wednesday’s broadcast, and Kotb — who’s leaving the present within the new 12 months — broke down in tears over Savannah Guthrie’s current.
Kotb, 60, opened the present bag which had wishing candles and a small sq. with a framed quote.
“Ok, this phrase …” Kotb stated, as she received choked up whereas making an attempt to learn the quote.
The quote is “May you find the light to guide you home.”
’It’s an exquisite tune that Savannah gave to me each time I used to be going by one thing new,” Kotb defined. “And you got candles! Oh, my God. It’s too much.”
The quote is from the tune “May You Find a Light” by Josh Garrels.
“I thought you could put it on your desk in the morning when you’re reading your stuff,” Guthrie, 52, informed Kotb.
“You know what I love about this the most? That’s your handwriting,” stated Kotb, who held up the framed lyric that Guthrie wrote.
The pair then stated “I love you” to one another and exchanged hugs.
Kotb introduced her exit from “Today” after 26 years in September. Her last present is Friday, Jan. 10.
She shared the information in-person together with her co-anchors, together with Guthrie.
“I have spent 26 years at NBC,” she stated. “I just turned 60, and it was such a monumental moment for me, because I started thinking about that decade. I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and to try something new.”
“I decided that this is the right time to move on,” Kotb shared, including that she needs to spend extra time together with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5.
Final month, it was introduced that Craig Melvin will change Kotb and co-anchor the primary two hours of “Today” alongside Guthrie.
Kotb can also be the co-host of the ten a.m. present “Today with Hoda and Jenna” alongside Jenna Bush Hager, who can be joined by rotating visitor co-hosts following Kotb’s exit till her everlasting co-host is introduced.
In October, Kotb admitted on her present with Bush Hager, 43, that her resolution to go away “Today” is “terrifying.”
“When those twinges come up, like, ‘Should you do it? Is it a mistake?’ … I remind myself that there’s still part of me that’s living right here,” she stated.
“And that’s normal. Like, let it be. So yeah, it’s scary. Yeah, it’s terrifying — it’s all those things … but it’s also exactly right,” Kotb added.
