Blue Jays pitcher Anthony Bass has a bone to pick with United Airlines.
Expressing his frustrations on Twitter, the 35-year-old Bass alleged that a flight attendant on a United Airlines flight made made his pregnant wife get on the floor and pick up the mess made by his 2-year-old daughter.
“The flight attendant @united just made my 22 week pregnant wife traveling with a 5 year old and 2 year old get on her hands and knees to pick up the popcorn mess by my youngest daughter,” Bass tweeted. “Are you kidding me?!?!”
Bass’ wife is Sydney Rae James, who is the sister of Jessie James Decker, the wife of former Jets wide receiver Eric Decker.
Most of the respondents on Twitter were not sympathetic to Bass’ plight.
“Genuinely curious who should clean up the mess your 2 year old made?” one person asked in a reply. “As a parent of three kids I am the one responsible for them.”
Bass responded, “The cleaning crew they hire!”
The finance meme account Litquidity told Bass, “I love how this tweet backfired on you spectacularly and you look like the mega a–hole here lmao.”
“Since you have money to burn & aren’t teaching your kids no one owes them anything, why don’t you hire a maid to travel w/ you?” asked Twitter user Ariaa Jaeger. “You’re the reason we pay more for airline tickets, you take no personal [responsibility] & are raising kids to blame others for their mess.”
Bass has appeared in seven games for the Blue Jays this season and so far has struggled with a 7.11 ERA in 6 ⅓ innings.
In 73 total appearances last season with the Marlins and Blue Jays, Bass had a 1.54 ERA with 73 strikeouts in 70 ⅓ innings.
His career ERA is 3.91 and career WHIP is 1.284.
In his 12-year career, Bass has also pitched for the Padres, Astros, Rangers, Cubs, Mariners and Marlins.
