The NFL season kicked off Thursday night, but we really get rolling Sunday with a full slate of Week 1 games.
One matchup that sticks out to me is the Jaguars traveling to Indianapolis.
I’m high on Jacksonville entering the season, and though I typically don’t lay points on the road in Week 1, the Jaguars being -4.5 seems a bit off.
I make Jacksonville closer to a touchdown favorite in this game.
The Colts are obviously in rebuilding mode with raw rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson making his NFL debut.
Richardson may become a good quarterback one day, but expect him to struggle in the opener against an athletic Jacksonville front seven.
If the Jaguars can limit Richardson’s plays out of the pocket, I see them winning this game pretty easily.
On the other side of the ball, Trevor Lawrence, Travis Etienne and Calvin Ridley spearhead one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL.
The Colts allowed 25.1 points per game last season and Jacksonville has put up 24-plus in three straight games against them.
If that trend continues, look for the Jags to cover this modest spread on the road.
Betting on the NFL?
The Colts just made Luke Rhodes the highest-paid long snapper in NFL history.
The good news is he’ll earn every penny of that new contract with Indianapolis doing plenty of punting.
The play: Jaguars -4.5
