HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A linebacker at Alabama’s largest traditionally Black college died on Tuesday after a collision throughout a recreation in October that left him hospitalized for a month, in response to a press release from the college.
Medrick Burnett Jr., 20, was taking part in his first season as a linebacker with Alabama A&M College when he sustained a head harm in the course of the annual Magic Metropolis Traditional towards in-state rivals Alabama State College on Oct. 26, in response to a press release from the college. He was hospitalized till he died Tuesday night time. The college didn’t specify the official reason for loss of life.
“Medrick was more than an exceptional athlete; he was a remarkable young man whose positive energy, leadership, and compassion left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him,” Alabama A&M Director of Athletics Dr. Paul Bryant stated in a press release.
Burnett’s situation deteriorated after he arrived on the hospital, the place he was handled for “several brain bleeds and swelling of the brain” in response to a verified GoFundMe posted by his sister Dominece James.
Burnett was from Lakewood (Los Angeles County) and transferred to Alabama A&M in 2024 after one season with the Grambling State College soccer program. He appeared in seven complete video games all through the 2024 season, recording a season-best three tackles at Austin Peay State College.
