Lions’ Aidan Hutchinson’s mom back in prime-time spotlight

Aidan Hutchinson’s mom Melissa might be a good luck charm for the Lions.

The defensive end helped his team to a 21-20 win over the the reigning Super Bowl champion Chiefs after his parents stole the spotlight while mic’d up during Thursday’s season opener at Arrowhead.

Melissa — who caught the attention of fans at the 2022 NFL Draft, where the Lions selected her son second overall — pulled out a pair of binoculars in the stands, where she was heard asking her husband, Chris Hutchinson, about the game.

“Big binoculars came out of the bag,” she said, laughing.

The couple, who wore matching “Hutch” hats, were seen cheering and clapping.

Melissa, who is a photographer, attended the Lions’ training camp in July, where she praised her son for his disciplined lifestyle in a post on Instagram.

“This offseason was a gift of time never before experienced by @aidanhutch97,” Melissa wrote in her caption, including a photo of her and Chris posing with their son on the field. “He leveled up his already crazy disciplined lifestyle lol. It was unreal.

“No one can work him out harder or regiment Aidan more than he does himself. Reminds me of the guy on the left in this picture.”

Chris was an All-American defensive tackle at the University of Michigan from 1989 to 1992, and helped the Wolverines to four consecutive Big Ten titles and a win in the 1993 Rose Bowl.

Hutchinson Sr. is tied for fourth in school history with 11 sacks in 1992.

He’s also tied for fourth in school history with 24 career sacks.

The Lions’ victory at Arrowhead came on a banner night for the Chiefs.

Kansas City revealed their Super Bowl LVII banner — their second in the Patrick Mahomes era — after defeating the Eagles, 38-35, in February.

However, a Super Bowl hangover seemed evident for the Chiefs.

Kansas City’s offense struggled as Mahomes targeted 12 different receivers that mostly came up short.

The Chiefs had a shocking five drops, including one that wideout Kadarius Toney deflected for a pick-six.

The Chiefs were also without Travis Kelce, who hyperextended his knee, and Chris Jones, who’s waiting for a new contract.

The Lions will play their home owner against the Seahawks on Sept. 17, while the Chiefs visit the Jaguars in Week 2 for a divisional playoff rematch from last year, which saw Kansas City beat Jacksonville, 27-2.
