A wrong-way driver allegedly killed one woman and injured 9 others during a multi-car crash on a Maryland interstate Tuesday night, according to officials.
Police received numerous reports of a white Mercedes SUV driving southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 270 just before 11:45 p.m. near Rockville, Maryland.
The driver eventually drove onto the Capital Beltway (I-495) traveling eastbound in the westbound lane.
Jayleen Hannor, 23, of Macon Ga. is suspected of driving the Mercedes that crashed into a Lexus and Nissan SUV near the area of I-495 at Maryland Route 355, Maryland State Police said in a press release Wednesday morning.
Three children and two adults who were riding in the Nissan Pathfinder were injured during the crash.
One adult female in the SUV was rushed to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The Lexus was carrying five adults, all of whom were transported to area hospitals for their injuries.
The crash and subsequent emergency response caused all lanes on the interstateโs outerloop to be shut down for several hours.
The conditions and identities of those injured are unknown as of Wednesday morning.
Police say Hannor fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later and brought to the State Troopers barracks in Rockville, where charges are pending.
I-495 westbound traffic was reopened on Wednesday around 4:23 a.m., the Maryland State Highway Administration announced.
The area of the wreck is just north of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, which is approximately 22 miles Northwest of Washington DC.
The Post has reached out to the Maryland State Police for more information.
