The Yankees will be featured on ESPN’s “Sunday Night Baseball” for the third straight week, and their opponents for the second time in seven days are the Red Sox.
Luis Severino (0-1, 6.48 ERA) gets the call for the Yankees in the second game of a doubleheader, with Boston turning to veteran Brayan Bello (3-4, 3-78 ERA).
Yankees vs. Red Sox prediction
(7:10 p.m. ET. ESPN)
Severino is coming off three poor starts, in which he has given up 22 hits, 17 runs and an alarming seven home runs over 13 ²/₃ innings.
Since returning from the injured list with a strained lat, Severino has pitched five times.
He was strong in his first two outings, allowing just three runs, but the velocity on his fastball has decreased in his past three starts, and that has gotten him into early trouble.
Bello, who had been scheduled to start Saturday’s rained out game, is dealing right now.
He’s given up three runs or fewer in six straight starts.
Overall, Bello has allowed more than three runs just twice in 10 starts this season.
I do expect Severino to pitch better on Sunday night, but this line presents some value on Boston.
Betting on Baseball?
The Yankees’ offense is struggling right now, and facing a left-handed veteran like Paxton won’t help.
Until we see Severino get back into form, it’s hard to back the Yankees at this price.
